Week 14: more than a website

4 April 2025

I’m working on GovTech Barbados, where we’re helping the CEO define what GovTech is.

Last week felt packed, hence getting around to weeknotes on a Monday. I started the week by saying that this is about more than building a website for Barbados. It went like this.

Crafting vision and mission statements for GovTech.

Thinking about the messages we want to start landing with the CEO and his new team, and how they flow through all the work we’re doing at the moment. Things like: this is not just about building a new GOV.BB. Things we’re going to have to say over and over again until they really sink in. And pulling all of that together in a single place.

Meeting the new comms director, and sharing the vision, mission and elevator pitch exercise.

Trying to make sense of everything GovTech has committed to deliver. There are 60-ish different initiatives, ranging from digitally transforming the court system to a digital ID programme that’s already running. For most of them, we don’t have much more than a title at the moment, so the job is to work out what problem each one solves and what the intended outcome is.

I spent a bit of time with ChatGPT and asked it to work out what some of the outcomes could be. It did a remarkably good job. It’s not perfect, but it’s a start. Next, we’ll review, validate and rewrite them so they can form the basis of the roadmap for GovTech.

Exploring some animation on the GOV.BB homepage concept, which ChatGPT built very quickly.
