Week 49: if this fails, the view goes away
Apart from everything I’ve been saying about creating resilient environments for people to work in, the view from my window is what’s driving me. I keep saying to people: if this fails, this view goes away and I lose my apartment. That, along with the responsibility I feel to the friends who’ve joined me in this. If it doesn’t work, if nothing else I’ll feel like I’ve failed. I’m okay with that. I need that pressure.
But right now, I don’t have any evidence that this can’t be done.
I know from experience that if I, or we, knock on enough doors and have enough conversations, eventually someone will say yes. I got my first job like that: two days of phoning every graphic design agency in the Yellow Pages until this crazy guy said yes, come in tomorrow with your portfolio. I walked out of there with a two-month contract, which turned into a two-year job.
This week I’ve:
- written and talked through a discussion guide for research with CTOs
- built a long list of organisations to start conversations with
- played a bit with LinkedIn Sales Navigator
