Week 44 weeknote

30 October 2026

It’s been a busy week. I made progress on five things:

  1. Brev, the product and the site
  2. Notis, a new dashboard
  3. Month-end
  4. Looking for work
  5. Tuesday’s LinkedIn post

Brev

Over the weekend I finally made progress on the mail app I started in May. It’s now a working alpha, with rough edges.

I used up my Claude credit and my free API credit trying to get it finished. I built a story map of what comes next; it’s the first roadmap. I’ve also been pushing Claude to work more autonomously, with less input from me. Everything in the roadmap is a GitHub issue, and I’ve told it to build what it can. It’s a bit of a hit-and-hope, but an interesting experiment.

Midweek, I got excited and thought this could become a real product. Claude did some research, and I accepted that I won’t make money from it. Either way, I’m going to keep building it and adding the features I want from a mail client.

If you’d like to try it, you can sign up for the beta at getbrev.eu.

Notis

On Wednesday, Effie asked if there was a way to see all notes in one place. Claude built a dashboard, and we went back and forth on the functionality. It’s now at version 0.4.0.

I’ve been using Claude design for more of this, and it’s working quite well. It’s easier to see a design and write a plan from that than to read the plan and see if it builds the right thing. I was really impressed with Claude’s ability to animate a user journey so I could see how it thought the design would be used.

Getting feedback like this is the best part of the project, and it’s good to be able to react quickly to what people want.

I keep saying I’ll build a Chrome plugin for Notis, but I need to work out if it’s worth it.

Month-end

I spent most of Thursday running my personal month-end in my personal finance app. I went through my bank statements, asked questions and looked for ways to save money. It found some opportunities.

Looking for work

Month-end got me thinking about where the next paid work comes from. I enjoy building the small apps I’m working on, but nobody will pay me for them, so I need paid work eventually.

I’ve started building an opportunity dashboard with Claude. If you need help with product, AI or strategy, get in touch.

French test

I’m using this quieter period to take a few weeks of intensive French in November. I did a placement test with the language school and got B1, which is better than I expected.

Do the obvious things first

On Tuesday, I posted on LinkedIn about how you don’t always need research when the answer is staring you in the face.

It feels like it’s been a proactive week.
