Week 42: Birthday Week
On Monday I was 49 or as I’m rebranding it Gav version 4.9. I was actually quite busy this week. I did a fair bit of work on notis.gavinwye.com, boka.gavinwye.com. I’m planning to publish post about these later in the week and open source them both.
I made a new friend Roo who Gurps introduce me to. We had a lovely dinner on Tuesday night at Big Mountain as Roo was in Chamonix preparing for a Denali trip next year.
I built a small replacement for myFitnessPal when I realised the subscription was up and the only features that I really use it for a tracking my weight and finding out how many calories things are. Claude was able to build in a couple of hours. This will get open sourced soon too. I’m calling it Cals.
On Friday, Night had a nice little chilled party with lots of friends at Möo and Chamonix, remarkably the next day I felt okay even though I drink far too much.
Saturday, I went for a nice little bike ride up to La Vert and only fell off once. Ben, who’s 15 years younger than me said he hopes he’s not abusing his body like I do when he’s 49. I replied I hope you are.
On Sunday I went for a chilled climbing session at the local wall took a fall and ended up dislocating my shoulder. It hurt like hell. I got four shots of morphine and the doctor eventually got it back into place. Oddly, the most complicated thing was explaining the bruises from from yesterday’s bike ride, and How they weren’t connected to the dislocated shoulder.
I’m now making full use of dictation software to write everything.
What I learned
-
I’m still amazed at the speed which with which Claude can generate a small app for me.
-
Dislocating your shoulder hurts more than you would think. Putting it back hurts even more.
-
Even at 49 I act like a 20-year-old.
What’s stuck
-
I’ve had a lot of unfortunate accidents in the last few years rather than slowing down. I need to build my body so that’s stronger and more resilient.
-
I actually really like building small little apps how much as much as I do doing strategic work I think product management is changing or has changed and we’re moving into the realms where product people actually need to be more like UX people used to be when we were prototyping things in code. Other roles of product and UX coming together is UX even really a thing anymore I’m sure there are a lot of UX designers or interaction designers looking at product people thinking they’re taking their jobs away.
Next week
Monday started with a lot of admin trying to get an appointment for a physio and a doctor and disappearing down a YouTube rabbit hole of rehab for my shoulder.
I feel like I’ve got a lot of life admin to do this week as well, but I’ll be writing some more posts about my recent work and about the apps that I’m gonna be releasing soon.
