Week 6: from doing to coaching
I’m working at GovTech Barbados, where we’re helping them build alpha.gov.bb, the organisation to deliver it, and the capability within that organisation to sustain it.
Last week went like this:
- six interviews for product managers to join the GovTech team
- a meeting with the head of the public service in Barbados: a regular call, building strong relationships and getting asked and invited to collaborate
- a Public Digital team debrief on the previous week’s Barbados trip
- putting together a timeline of GovTech for the new head of delivery, to be used in a reset this coming week
- trying not to drop things, while probably dropping some things
- dealing with a barrage of Slack messages, which is hard to keep up with
Alongside all that, the big thing on my mind has been how to transition from doing the work to a more coachy style of being part of the team. Moving from doing, through telling, to coaching. It’s not going to be a linear journey.
