Week 4: standing in the middle of a hurricane
This week I’ve been in Barbados with my Public Digital colleagues Adunni and Abisola. This was one of the toughest trips we’ve had. Lots going on. Too much to mention it all fully here.
Sometimes, and this was one of those times, this engagement happens to you. I’ve come to think of it like standing in the middle of a hurricane, doing what you can. Any plan you had quickly goes out of the window.
Here’s what happened this week.
Adunni did a great job testing the register a birth service at the registration office, while the team from OpenCRVS tested the back-office system with registrars. On Friday, we presented the whole thing to the chief registrar and her team. Watch this space for updates.
A handful of colleagues, along with most of the GovTech team, have been working all the hours this week to get more than a handful of forms (you could actually call these services if you want) live.
- Apply to be a Project Protégé mentor
- Get a copy of a birth certificate
- Get a copy of a death certificate
- Get a copy of a marriage certificate
- Redirect my mail
- Redirect my business mail
- Tell the Post Office someone has died
Outside of that, we’ve established a management team for GovTech, developed a plan to deliver about 100 more services, and outlined a transformation for some government agencies. Along with building a product roadmap for the rest of the year.
