Week 19: building the foundations
I’m working on GovTech Barbados, where we’re helping them develop their remit, organisational structure and strategic priorities.
This week has been all about building a short, concise deck that answers those three questions, so that we leave the CEO with a playbook for how he talks about his organisation’s work. It has a wide variety of audiences, but I want to enable him to talk clearly about what GovTech is going to do.
I’ve boiled that down to three simple things that contain a lot of complexity, and conveniently point to the work we hope to help them do next. Here they are.
GovTech will work to build solid foundations:
Remit Digital transformation of public services for citizens and businesses.
Org design Strong leadership, and empowered multidisciplinary teams focused on outcomes.
Strategic priorities Focus on the most impactful work first, develop standards, and build digital delivery capability.
There have been a few late nights, some nights lying awake at 3am thinking about the work, and quite a few iterations. There’s a lot on the cutting room floor. But it’s getting to the point where I’m starting to feel OK with it.
It feels worthwhile, and it says something that would have felt too bold when we started.
Thanks to my Public Digital colleagues for their help and support.
Have a great weekend, everyone.
