Week 11: now, next, later
I’m working on GovTech Barbados, and it’s been a full-on week.
Last week I said I’d started to think of the work we’re doing as three different things:
- Building GOV.BB
- Transforming MIST, which includes setting up the Barbados Digital Service, or GovTech
- Transforming the rest of government
This week I’ve refined that. We’re:
- Setting up GovTech (now)
- Building GOV.BB and launching some beacon services (next)
- Transforming MIST (later)
and then:
- Transforming the rest of government (even later)
This coincides with our first conversations with the new Minister this week.
So I’ve spent most of my week, along with my Public Digital colleagues, trying to unpack what all of that means in a way we can describe in one or two pages. We’ve done a good job, but it feels like a game of cards: trying to explain what needs to be done without committing ourselves to unrealistic expectations.
The weather for playing outside has been terrible this week, so I’m living off last weekend’s escapades in the mountains.
