Week 26: the nicest humans in the room
I’m working with Ontario One Call, helping them increase their digital maturity.
This week has been all about retrospectives and the final report. We started this document by saying we could make it short, one or two pages. That was optimistic. It’s long, but it’s good.
Thought of the day: why do executives get summaries while everyone else has to read the details? If we can say what we need to say to an executive, shouldn’t that be enough for everyone else? It would have made for a shorter report!
In our internal retro, a colleague said: “Focusing on being the nicest human in the room over being assertive is good.” And it worked, because the COO said:
Right from the start, I could see you’re just a lovely group of humans. You were very nice, helped us really open up. And you were always smiling!
We’ve finished the engagement now and left them wanting more, which is nice.
Now I’m off to the mountains for a bit of active recovery.
