Week 17: the Nike matrix
Wow, what a week!
I spent a day in London and spoke at a Public Digital event. Thanks to everyone who organised it. Speaking in front of that crowd was fun but terrifying, and one colleague stole the show!
Just one day in London made me remember what I’m missing. Distributed teams lose the cross-pollination you get from overhearing a snippet of someone else’s conversation. The effort to get there was worth it.
This week in the world of Ontario One Call, I’ve been trying to make sense of the outcomes we asked them to write, link them to the problems that are stopping them, and roughly match those things to our recommendations and initiatives.
I spent a few hours early in the week with the team plotting all this on an Eisenhower matrix. I think we’re going to rename it the Nike matrix because of the “Just do it” square in the top left. Great idea from a colleague!
We had a magic workshop with the client this week. We refined an elevator pitch they wrote a few weeks ago. They said that user-centred design and delivery are the most important things to them now. That’s a massive change in the way they talk about the work they do, in just a few months.
In the coming weeks, we’ll be helping them share this with the rest of the organisation. We’re hoping to do some kind of crowd-sourced roadmap prioritisation using Mentimeter. That’ll be more of a temperature check than a free vote on the roadmap.
