Week 22: everything starts with Claude

29 May 2026

I’ve been terrible at writing weeknotes lately. We’ve been pushing incredibly hard at GovTech Barbados, and there are only two months left to go of this engagement. I’m looking forward to a rest in August.

I spent most of May in Barbados. It was exhausting! This included a full week of workshops and a week spent in an Airbnb with the team, all with a “let’s ship stuff” mentality. As a recovering designer, I’ve been pushing to get things live that I would have resisted in the past. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved.

We’ve gone into full-on AI mode; everything we do now starts with Claude. That’s unlocked shipping velocity that I’ve never seen before. We’re compressing time, with a team who’ve never worked this way before.

I watched this video from Anthropic the other day, and we’re working just like their labs team, except we’re not a labs team.

Harry Metcalfe has joined the team as an AI specialist, and the developers have rebuilt the platform in a few weeks to be AI from the ground up. It’s been transformational.

We’ve shifted away from building capability to actually delivering stuff, shoulder to shoulder with the team in Barbados. It actually feels to me like we’re doing a better job of building capability now.
