Week 38: an email client on a sunday night

19 September 2025

This week was slower than the last one. We focused on paying down some of the debt we’d built up by moving fast, and on keeping focused on the task at hand: delivering 15 to 20 entry points and a single deeper transformation.

It went like this:

  • alpha.gov.bb has attracted a lot of interest and feedback, and I’ve been working out how to share that with the team without pulling them off what we set out to do.
  • Meeting some of the other organisations GovTech is working with. Interesting, but time I didn’t really have.
  • Feeling short on time.
  • Trying to keep things simple, especially the forms work. Government forms don’t need to be complicated. Most are a combination of yes/no questions and input fields, and if ours get complicated, we’re doing something wrong.
  • Trying to hide my frustration at times.
  • Delivering the digital maturity report to Ontario One Call.

I spent Sunday night building an email client with Replit. Amazing, seeing as I’m not a developer, and I can now read my email in something I built with AI. I’m pondering what tools like this mean for traditional delivery teams.
