Week 35: storming, forming, norming

29 August 2025

I’m working on two engagements right now: a digital maturity reassessment for Ontario One Call, and GovTech Barbados.

GovTech Barbados

For GovTech Barbados, we started a 13-week phase of work this week. We’ve spent the past few months helping them hire a development team, and now we’re building that team into a full delivery team. Public Digital is supplying the user-centred design side of the team, and I’m part of that with a group of brilliant colleagues. Thanks to all of them for this week. It’s been great!

I was in London on Tuesday and Wednesday for the initial workshops to kick off the project. We did the usual storming, forming and norming exercises, and a pre-mortem to talk through what could go wrong. We also planned next week, when we’ll be in Barbados. We’re all flying out on Sunday morning.

Next week, we’ll run workshops with ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) across the island to figure out which services to focus on. The workshops are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. In the afternoons, we’ll do user research to test what we’ve learned from the departments. It’s going to be another tiring week.

Ontario One Call

The reassessment took a turn this week. A new CEO started, so we had an open conversation with the client and agreed to adjust our approach. Plans change. We’ve offered to meet the new CEO to walk him through the work we’ve been doing together and why it matters.
